Slanské Hills
The Slanské Hills (in Slovak, Slanské vrchy) is a range of mountains in eastern Slovakia, one segment of the Mátra-Slanec Area of the Inner Western Carpathians.
The area is named after the nearest town in the southern portion, Slanec. The range is approximately 50 km (31 mi) long, 16 km (9.9 mi) side, and extends southeast of the city of Prešov, between the Košice Basin and the Eastern Slovak Lowland.
The mountains average 800 to 1,000 m (2,600 to 3,300 ft) high, with the highest elevation at Simonka, 1,092 m (3,583 ft) (where 700 healthy, mature elms were discovered in 1998). The mountains are forested, with several mineral springs, and resources such as gold, silver, and antimony. Passes through the mountains include the Herľany Pass and Dargov Pass (Dargovský priesmyk), site of a significant World War II battle.
Brezina (Slovakia) / Slanské Hills
The source of SiO2 were hot springs in an intermediate volcanic activity. Chalcedony is a major part of filling veins. Byšta (Slovakia) / Slanské Hills
For agates from Byšta is typical of irregular spherical shape. It is characterized by white and blue. Fill cavities often consist of chalcedony, opal, crystal, rare small crystals stilbite.
Pre acháty z Byšty je typický nepravidelný guľovitý tvar. Charakteristická je biela a modrá farba. Výplň dutín tvorí často chalcedón, opál, krišťál, zriedka drobné kryštáliky stilbitu.
Kuzmice (Slovakia) / Slanské Hills
Agates from this locality are irregularly shaped, finely crystalline bell, which is not generally the typical agates. Containing crystalline filler. The color is white, yellow, and light blue. Rare void content.
Acháty z tejto lokality majú nepravidelný tvar, zvonku drobnokryštalický, čo nie je všeobecne pre acháty charakteristické. Obsahujú kryštalickú výplň. Farba je biela, žltá, až svetlomodrá. Vzácne obsahujú dutiny.
Kvetnica (Slovakia) / Low Tatras
Agates occur in two quarries at the edge of the forest. Both have red to pink color, from outside have dark green to black color. They create an irregular spherical shape. As a result of mining activity, the agates are cracked and hard to grind.
Acháty sa vyskytujú v dvoch lomoch na kraji lesa. V oboch majú červenú až ružovú farbu, zvonku majú tmavozelenú až takmer čiernu farbu. Vytvárajú nepravidelný guľovitý tvar. Následkom banskej činnosti sú acháty popraskané a ťažko sa brúsia.
Zemplín (Slovakia) / Zemplín Hills
Agatejasper are located on the locality. In the compact jasper mass, there are nests and veins of the chalcedon with inclusions of chlorites and hematite, sometimes crystals of quartz (amethyst). Some jaspers pseudomorph plant stems and get the appearance of coral (var. Coral jasper)
Na lokalite sa nachádzajú achátjaspisy. V kompaktnej jaspisovej mase sa nachádzajú hniezda a žilky chalcedónu s inklúziami chloritov a hematitov, niekedy kryštálov kremeňa (ametystu). Miestami jaspisy pseudomorfujú rastlinné stonky a dostávajú vzhľad koralov (var. koralový jaspis)
